1. The letter from Sharp Delany, the collector for the port of Philadelphia, to Hamilton has not been identified. On 10 Aug., the Citoyen Genet captured the British sloop Hope of Antigua off the coast of Virginia. The sloop arrived at Philadelphia on 14 August. On 12 Aug., the Carmagnole, with the assistance of the Petite Démocrate, seized the British Brig Nancy while on a voyage from Jamaica to Philadelphia. This brig departed Philadelphia on 14 Aug., and in early September it was seized at the port of New London, Conn., by a contingent of state militia in anticipation of restoring the brig to its rightful owner (Henry Knox to Thomas Jefferson, 9 Sept., George Hammond to Jefferson, 23 Dec. 1793, Jefferson Papers description begins Julian P.
