Sir

There are some points relative to the finishing of our business which we suppose will occasion you less trouble in giving us directions about in conversation than by letters the principal are respecting the person to whom you think it will be most proper to make our report and into whose custody we shall deliver the Books & papers belonging to the office1—if agreeable we shall be glad to know when it will be most convenient for us to wait upon you relative to this matter2—With profound respect We are Sir Your Obt Huml. 1. On this commission, see Robert Barnwell to GW, 27 April 1789, and note 1. The upcoming expiration on 1 July 1793 of the commissions of William Irvine, John Kean, and Woodbury Langdon prompted this letter (Commissioners for Settling Accounts to GW, 21 June 1793 [second letter], and note 1).

2. GW replied later this date: “Before I can fix upon a time for conferring with you respecting certain points relative to the finishing of your business, I have to request that you will state particularly what those points are, that I may have some little time to consider them. as soon as may be after which, I will inform you when it will be convenient for me to see you, & to give any necessary directions concerning them.” He added a postscript that reads: “I hope the Communication requested will be made, at farthest, by nine oClock tomorrow morning, as I am under the necessity of leaving this City tomorrow evening or early the next morning” (L, in Bartholomew Dandridge, Jr.’s writing, DNA: RG 59 Miscellaneous Letters; LB, DLC: GW).
