Treasury Department, Revenue Office, November 30, 1792. Announces “the completion of the light House, Keepers house, oil Vault, and platform on Cape Henry in the state of Virginia.” States that extra work has compelled the contractor to submit a bill in excess of the original contract. Asks Hamilton to secure the President’s approval of this bill.1

1. A copy of one supplementary contract entered into with John McComb, Jr., by Thomas Newton, Jr., for H on July 29, 1791, may be found in RG 26, Lighthouse Deeds and Contracts, National Archives. The existence of another supplementary agreement between McComb and Newton is indicated in McComb’s statement of November 10, 1792 (RG 217, Miscellaneous Treasury Accounts, 1790–1894, Account No. 3298, National Archives). The President’s approval is copied on the July 29 contract. A note in Coxe’s handwriting at the foot of Account No. 3298 indicates that Washington approved both additions to the original contract.
