From Théophile Cazenove

New York, 5 Oct. 1792. He transmits a letter to the President from Mr. Alta which he received from Messrs. Van Staphorst of Amsterdam, who assure him that Alta is highly esteemed in Holland for his agricultural knowledge.

Eelko Alta was a defrocked minister and farmer in the province of Friesland who sought information from Washington for a proposed treatise on “artificial Pasturing” (Alta to Washington, 19 July 1792, DLC: Washington Papers).
