Philadelphia, 27 Aug. 1791. Requests his commission and a certificate from Richard Peters, which he submitted to Congress in 1785 with a petition and other papers, so that he can present them to the Paymaster General’s office. He will return them to TJ’s office after the Paymaster General is finished with them.

Thomas Jefferson Secretary to Congress”; penciled notation by TJ below signature: “If the above papers are such as may be parted with under the rules of the office, Mr. Remsen will be pleased to deliver them, taking a receipt. Th: Jefferson”; endorsed by Henry Remsen as received 26 Aug. 1791.
