To Thomas Jefferson from Stephen Sayre, 25 August 1790
From Stephen Sayre
Le Havre, 25 Aug. 1790. Finding the Henrietta going out with TJ’s articles, he recalls himself to TJ as bringing letter from Massachusetts and Virginia delegates in 1785 “recommending your appointing me to the place, which I found so honorably fill’d by Mr. Lamb.” Requests “some employment in Europe if I may be thought worthy of it.”
RC (DLC: Applications for Office under Washington); endorsed by TJ as received 22 Nov. 1790 and so recorded in SJL.
