From George Washington to John Brown Cutting, 23 November 1789

To John Brown Cutting

New York Novr 23d, 1789

Sir,

I have received your letter of the 25th of July enclosing sundry papers respecting the state of public affairs in France, for which mark of attention I request you to accept my best acknowledgements. I am, Sir, Your most Obedt Servt.

On this day GW also wrote similar brief letters of acknowledgment to John Skey Eustace for his letters of 24 July and 18 Aug. and to Lucy Paradise for her letter of 12 May. On 24 Nov., using the same form, he acknowledged Richard Claiborne’s letters of 10 June and 23 July. Drafts of all of these short acknowledgments, in the writing of Tobias Lear, are in DNA: RG 59, Miscellaneous Letters.
