Paris, 18 Dec. 1788. He has left his former residence and fixed himself at a new address, which he joins to this letter. TJ will thus be able to give him his orders concerning the two books that Foulloy left with him during his absence. Asks TJ to advise him when he has heard from Congress about them.
RC (DLC); in a clerk’s hand, signed by Meunier; endorsed by TJ: “Foulloy (Meunier for him)”; address of the new residence at foot of text: “au Caffé de Philadelphie, au Coin de La rüe boucher, et La rüe Etienne, près Le pont Neuf.” TJ did not record this letter under Foulloy in SJL Index, but, surprisingly in view of the endorsement, recorded the following: “Meunier (for Foulloy).”
The Two books were the manuscript letter book and account book of Silas Deane that Foulloy held as security for a debt (see TJ to Foulloy, 4 and 9 July 1788; Foulloy to TJ, 7 and 8 July 1788; TJ to Jay, 3 Aug. 1788). Meunier is not to be confused with Jean Nicolas Démeunier, the encyclopedist, whose name TJ also spelled “Meunier” or “Meusnier.”
