Greuze, Oudon, Bonnet, Gaucher, Noté &c.7 A deux heures le Concert. Il commencera par une Hymme analogue au jour; les paroles sont du F( Marquis de la Salle,8 & la Musique du F( Piccini. 4. Pierre-Louis Ginguené (1748–1816) was a commis in the finance ministry and a man of letters. He wrote pamphlets in support of Piccini in the controversy with the Gluckists and was joint editor of the sections on music in the Encyclopédie méthodique (2 vols., Paris, 1791–1818). 1. No. 9, rue du Coq-héron: Hillairet, Rues de Paris, I, 388. During the months covered by this volume BF also received an invitation from d’Ussieux to a meeting on Dec. 24, 1781, to announce a decision by the Grand Orient on an unspecified matter and to decide a date for the celebration of the birth of the dauphin and the Queen’s recovery. The date was set for Jan. 14, 1782, and the invitation was issued immediately (WTF’s copy of the invitation, dated Dec. 24, 1781, is at the APS). The reception would include a Masonic oratorio composed by Piccinni, libretto by the marquis de La Salle, a banquet, readings, a comedy in two acts with a divertissement “analogue aux circonstances” by Sauvigny, proverbs, and a ball. This elaborate event was to begin at exactly four o’clock: no one would be admitted after half past five. The subscription fee was eighteen livres, and each brother could invite a lady provided he registered her name when he subscribed, mornings from Jan. 1 through Jan. 10, chez le F. Gaucher.
Sauvigny’s comedy, Les Amans François, an occasional piece celebrating the Yorktown victory, is described and excerpted in the Jour. de Paris of Jan. 22, 1782.
