General Orders

Head-Quarters Morristown tuesday Feby 1st 1780

Parole Egypt— C. Signs Eden. Egra.

The Connecticutt division is to be held in perfect readiness to march at a very short notice.

The Names and Rank of all the Field-Officers serving in the different lines of the Army and of the Independent Corps with the dates of their Commissions to be immediately sent to the Adjutant General’s office.

Adj. Gen. Alexander Scammell’s orderly book entry for this date includes the following additional information: “Found abouth the 12th Ult. near Veal Town a Handkerchief containing Wearing Apparel consisting of shirts stockings and other small articles, Whoever will prove their marks and property may have them again by applying to Mr Samuel Haines Quarter Master at Veal Town.

“There is at the Adjutant Generals Office a small-sword which was, some time ago, left in a Gentlemans slay coming from Basking-Ridge to Morris Town” (orderly book, 17 Oct. 1779–22 March 1780, DNA: RG 93, Orderly Books, 1775–1783, vol. 33).
