A few Tickets in the second Class of the United States Lottery are received and ready for sale at the Pay-Office where those who are inclined to become Adventurers are requested to apply as soon as possible as the Lottery will certainly commence drawing the first day of January next, at which time all the Tickets remaining on hand must be returned.

Those who are possessed of Prize-Tickets of twenty dollars in the first Class may have them renewed by applying as above.1

1. On 18 Nov. 1776 Congress had established a national lottery in four classes (JCC description begins Worthington Chauncey Ford et al., eds. Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774-1789. 34 vols. Washington, D.C., 1904–37. description ends , 6:959–61). The drawing for the first class, planned for 1 March 1777, did not take place until 27 May 1778, and lost the government $72,000. Drawing for the second class began on 1 Jan. 1779 and did not finish until six months later, losing the government another $340,000 (see Wilmerding, “Lottery” description begins Lucius Wilmerding, Jr. “The United States Lottery.” The New-York Historical Society Quarterly 47 (1963): 5-39. description ends ).
