2Charles Young (1757–1842) served as deputy clothier general at least until the summer of 1778, and later in the war he joined a Philadelphia firm that outfitted armed privateers. In the early 1790s Young contracted with the federal government to provide clothing for the army, but by the late 1790s he was insolvent.
