I am favoured with your Excellency’s Letter of the 15th instant; which I have communicated to the General Assembly now sitting here. Agreeable to your Request the Captains of the Row-Gallies are ordered to proceed immediately to New York there to receive your Orders and to govern themselves accordingly.1 I have the Honor to be with great Respect Sir Your Excellency’s Most obedt and Most humble Servt

1. The Rhode Island general assembly convened at Newport on 18 July and subsequently ordered the state’s two row galleys, the Spit-Fire commanded by Capt. John Grimes and the Washington commanded by Capt. John Hyers, to go to New York and to receive orders from GW ( , 7:581–82). Both vessels arrived at New York on 28 July (see GW to John Hancock, 29 July).
