3Daniel Wister (1738–1805), the son of John Wister, BF’s landlord from 1756 to 1761 (see above, IX, 184 n), was, like his father, a Philadelphia merchant. From the tenor of a letter which BF wrote Wister on Sept. 27, 1766, it appears that the young man was one of his political allies, engaged in refuting rumors about him among the Germans. It was to Wister’s father and cousin that the Schwenkfelder, Casper Krible, wrote in the fall of the present year for a testimonial on BF’s behalf. See below, pp. 328–30.
