General Orders

Head-Quarters V. Forge Wednesday Jany 14th 78.

Parole: Perseverance—Countersign: Peace—Plenty.

The Majors of Brigade will deliver a list of the Field Officers in the several brigades to which they belong tomorrow at orderly-time.

The Court-Martial which was to sit this day, to sit tomorrow ten ôClock at the Bake-House near Head-Quarters.

Brig. Gen. Edward Hand’s orderly book for this date includes instructions for a fatigue party of fifty-four men “to parade Tomorrow Morning at Sunrise on the Brigade parade of Genl Varnums Brigade and thence march to fatland ford and take Gl Sullivans directions” and for 14 men each from James Mitchell Varnum’s and Jedediah Huntington’s brigades “to parade this Day 1 oClock P.M. at the Commisa[r]y’s of Ordnance Stores, who will give them proper Directions—To be provided for a long Tour of Duty” (DNA: RG 93, Orderly Books, 1775–1783, vol. 20).
