From George Washington to Colonel Stephen Moylan, 21 February 1780

To Colonel Stephen Moylan

Head Quarters Morris Town 21st Feby 1780

Dear Sir

I wrote to you on the 15th instant requiring a Return of your Regiment agreeable to the form then inclosed.1 Should any of the Men belong to the State of Connecticut, you will be pleased to transmit a Return of them immediately to Govr Trumbull. You will, notwithstanding this, include them in the2 Regimental Return which you make to me. I am Dear Sir Your most obt Servt

LS, in the writing of Tench Tilghman, CSmH; Df, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW. GW signed the cover of the LS. The LS is addressed to Moylan at Colchester, Conn., and a note on the cover in Tilghman’s writing reads: “To be forwarded to Colo. Moylan by the Q[uarte]r M[aste]r at Har[t]ford.” A note on the draft indicates that an identical letter was sent to Col. Elisha Sheldon.
