Head Qrs Morris Town February 26. 1780

Sir

Since I had the Honor of addressing Your Excellency on the 20th Instant1—It has been found, that there was an Error in the Return then transmitted, with respect to the number of Men belonging to the State in the artillery. Instead of 4 there are 77 in Lamb’s Battallion, 76 of which are for the War—and 7 in Captain Walker’s company for the same time.2 I have the Honor to be with the most perfect respect & esteem Yr Excellency’s Most Obedt sert

LS, in Robert Hanson Harrison’s writing, Ct: Trumbull Papers; Df, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW. A note in Trumbull’s writing on the docket of the LS reads: “recd 18th March 1780.”

2A return of this date signed by John Stagg, Jr., reported these numbers to Harrison (DLC:GW). Stagg apparently was acting as a clerk in the adjutant general’s office (see William Malcom to GW, 24 April 1779).
