Edward Shippen (1703–1781), the grandson of Edward Shippen (1639–1712), a speaker of the Pennsylvania Assembly and president of its council, and the father of Edward Shippen (1729–1806), a chief justice of Pennsylvania, was a prosperous merchant in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
