To William Thornton

Mount Vernon 28th Aug. [17]99

Dear1

I would thank you for requesting Mr Blagden to give me as early notice of the time, and amount of his next call upon me, as he can, that I may prepare accordingly.2 With great esteem & regard I am—Dear Sir Yr most Obedt Servt

Go: Washington

1Presumably GW intended to write “Sir.”

2GW on 30 Aug. wrote William Herbert, president of the Bank of Alexandria, that he wished to extend the sixty-day loan of $1,500 which he had taken out in June and used to make a payment of $1,000 on 2 July to the builder George Blagdin. See GW to Herbert, 25 June 1799, and notes 1 and 2 of that document. Thornton notified GW on 1 Sept. that Blagdin would need another $1,000 by 20 September. GW sent Thornton the money for Blagdin on 11 September.
