1. GW ordered these goods by the invoice of 20 July 1767, when he also wrote Charles Lawrence and John Didsbury. Cary’s invoices for the goods that GW ordered at the same time for John Parke Custis and Martha Parke Custis and for Custis’s and his own York River plantations are also dated 29 Oct. 1767. Captain Johnstoun arrived in the Potomac on 23 Feb. 1768.
2. John Walker was a sugar baker on Friday Street.
3. Spiritus nitre dulcis (sweet spirit of nitre) was a diuretic.
4. Balsamum copaiva is a resinous juice of a South American tree which was used as a purgative and diuretic.
5. Walter Humphrys was a warehouseman at 5 Lothbury.
6. John Bradshaw & James Davidson, makers of net, twine, and line, in 1770 were at 27 Fishstreet Hill.
7. Dennis & Woodward were saddlers on Chiswell Street, Moorfields. See Davidson & Dennis in Cary’s invoice, 31 Mar. 1761.
8. James Bryant’s trunk-making business in 1763 was at the corner of St. Paul’s Churchyard.
9. This may be the mercantile business of Edward Hunt & Son, Love Lane, Aldermanbury.
10. Bouchier may be Charles Boucher of 32 Cornhill.
