1Letter not found.

2GW dined on this day with Thomas Willing (1731–1821), whom he had known since 1774. Willing was the former business partner of Robert Morris and the brother of Elizabeth Willing Powel, the widow of GW’s old friend Samuel Powel and herself a close friend of the Mount Vernon family. GW does not refer in his diaries to visiting Mrs. Powel at this or any other time while in Philadelphia, but the notes that the two exchanged indicate that he probably did so a number of times (see GW to Elizabeth Willing Powel, 1, 4, 7, 9 Dec, and Mrs. Powel to GW, 3, 7 December).
