Philadelphia May 26: 1794.
The secretary of state has the honor of informing the President, that Mr Adams is of opinion, that his son will and ought to accept the appointment; and that he himself will advise him to accept it.1
Mr Monroe assents to the nomination of himself.2
The inclosed is a draft of the message, which was mentioned to the President this morning.3

1. On 29 May GW nominated John Quincy Adams to be U.S. minister to the Netherlands, and the Senate confirmed the nomination the next day.
2. James Monroe’s nomination as minister plenipotentiary to France was submitted to the Senate on 27 May and confirmed by them on 28 May.
3. The enclosure, which has not been identified, probably was a draft of GW’s message to Congress of this date.
