Major Morgan who acted in capacity of aid de camp with me during the expedition placed under my direction will have the honor to present this letter.1 He is a most amiable youth & I am persuaded worthy of your polite attention. I beg leave therefore to solicit it in his behalf & to recommend him as perfectly qualified from the part he has taken with the army to give to you information on any points you may please to require. 1. Lee appointed Benjamin R. Morgan, a major in McPherson’s Blues, as one of his aides on 20 Oct. (Gazette of the United States and Daily Evening Advertiser [Philadelphia], 28 Oct.). Benjamin Rawle Morgan (1765–1840), a lawyer and secretary of the Library Company, represented Philadelphia in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives at this time. He was later a judge and a trustee of the University of Pennsylvania.
