Mr Patrick Gibson has desired me to draw upon him for y/a for 444. Ds which I have done.1 I shall expect your Special Directions for the appropriation of it—
I have the pleasure of inclosing an extract made from a letter I have recd from M. Dessaus[sure] under date 5 May—which cannot fail being of a very Satisfactory nature to all who have advocated his cause, particularly to you who knew & fully appreciated his Merit—He has just arrived in Good health & returns in the fall

Upon refering to your favor of 22 April I observe that 444$ are to be remd to Thos appleton Leghorn.2 The 206$ for Marseilles are not yet recd—
RC (MHi); on a sheet folded to form four pages, with letter on p. 1, address on p. 2, and enclosure on pp. 3–4; mutilated at seal; postscript adjacent to closing and signature; addressed in a clerk’s hand: “Thomas Jefferson Monticello Virginia”; franked; postmarked Philadelphia, 23 June; endorsed by TJ as received 6 July 1820 and so recorded in SJL.
y/a: “your account.” TJ’s favor of 22 april to Vaughan was actually dated 24 Apr. 1820. remd: “remitted.”
