Sir,
Your letter of the 5th Inst. with its several enclosures is safe to hand,1 and I now enclose you a List from the Colo. of Artillery and Quarter Master General of what is and will be forwarded from this place, which is all that can be procured,2 there was some Duck arrived at Providence out of which I have requested Gove[r]nor Cooke to supply the Northern Army provided it’s not otherways disposed of,3 The water Communication being yet stop’d makes it exceeding Difficult to transport these Articles to Albany. 1. In the LB in DLC:GW, Webb inserted the word “come” above the line after “is.”

These enclosures have not been identified, but see Quartermaster General Stephen Moylan’s return to GW of 12 Aug., listing “Sundry Articles, delivered, in good Order, by Hugh Hughes Assistt Q.M.G., to Christopher Hart, who Engages to Convey them in the like Condition, to the Honble Major General Schuyler, or his Order at Albany the Danger of the Road excepted.” The items sent include various ordnance supplies, spyglasses, speaking trumpets, writing paper, quills, and sheet copper. A note at the end of the return says: “It was Intended, at first, to send these Articles all the Way by Land, but since con[c]luded to ship them at Poughkepsy, or the most convenient Landing above the Men-of-War &c.” (DLC:GW; see also , 5th ser., 1:919).
