Dr Sir

I will pay you the Sum of Four hundred pounds which my Nephew Informs me he is to give you for the Land he purchased of you in Frederick.1 I am Dr Sir Yr Mo. Obedt Humble Servt

1In January 1772 Philip Pendleton bought in Frederick County for £400 what GW describes as “a piece of about 180 Acres of Land sold him—joining my other Land, his own Land, & the Land of the Haynes’s” (General Ledger B description begins General Ledger B, 1772–1793. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 22). In January 1773 Pendleton sold the land to GW’s brother Samuel for £400 (General Ledger B description begins General Ledger B, 1772–1793. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 36).
