Charlestown, 25 June 1793. In conformity to the copyright law, he encloses for deposit in the office of the Secretary of State a copy of The American Universal Geography, of which he is author and proprietor.

Jedidiah Morse (1761–1826), a Yale graduate who served as Congregational minister at Charlestown, Massachusetts, 1789–1819, was a staunch conservative in religion and politics and a prolific author whose popular works on geography were the first on that subject published in America. TJ acquired a later edition of the enclosed work, which first appeared in 1789 as The American Geography (DAB description begins Allen Johnson and Dumas Malone, eds., Dictionary of American Biography, New York, 1928–36, 20 vols. description ends ; Sowerby, description begins E.
