1The enclosures have not been identified, but copies made from them are in DNA: RG 46, Third Congress, 1793-95, Senate Records of Legislative Proceedings, President’s Messages, and the originals are in PHarH: Executive Correspondence, 1790-99. Gen. John Gibson enclosed a letter to him from Lt. John Polhemus, dated 9 June, reporting the killing of two men by hostile Indians, and he described his preparations for defense of the frontier. Presley Nevill relayed reports that the Indians involved in hostilities "were from the West, and not of the Six Nations," and noted that "The fluctuation and inconsistency of our news is such, that it is difficult to form a proper opinion" (ASP, Indian Affairs description begins Walter Lowrie et al., eds. American State Papers. Documents, Legislative and Executive, of the Congress of the United States. 38 vols. Washington, D.C., Gales and Seaton, 1832–61. description ends , 1:510-11).
