Philadelphia Nov. 20. 1793.

Dear Sir

Being now returned to the neighborhood of Philadelphia, and business resumed in that place, I will pay on sight Mr. Fenwick’s draught: be pleased to accompany it with your own for the little disbursements made for me about the box of books &c. or if you prefer it, write me the amount of the whole, and I will remit you a bank post-note on the collector of George town by the return of the post which brings your letter. I am with great esteem Dr. Sir Your most obedt. servt

Th: Jefferson

PrC (DLC); at foot of text: “Mr. John Mason.” Tr (ViU: Edgehill-Randolph Papers); 19th-century copy.

SJL records a letter from Mason of 11 Sep. 1793, received from Georgetown on 14 Sep. 1793, and another letter written by Mason in Baltimore on 19 Sep. 1793 and received in that city by TJ the same day, neither of which has been found. A letter from TJ to Mason of the latter date, described as being on “personal business matters,” is not recorded in SJL and has not been found (Ritter-Hopson Galleries Catalogue, 24–25 May 1932, Lot 195).
