22 February 1805, Portsmouth. “My Son in Law Mr. Elwyn has entertained himself, in writeing a letter to a Federalist, which has been printed at Boston, and taken some Notice of; one of which I send you,1 you’ll excuse me for the liberty I have taken.”

1Langdon presumably enclosed a copy of Thomas Elwyn’s pamphlet, A Letter to a Federalist, in Reply to Some of the Popular Objections to the Motives and Tendency of the Measures of the Present Administration [Boston, 1805; Shaw and Shoemaker description begins R. Shoemaker, comps., American Bibliography: A Preliminary Checklist for 1801–1819 (22 vols.; New York, 1958–66). description ends 8388], which was published on 14 Feb. 1805 (Boston Independent Chronicle, 14 Feb. 1805).
