New York, 10 Dec. 1788. Introduces “to your protection and civilities John Coffin Jones Esq and his Lady.” Jones “is a merchant of eminence in Boston. His abilities, his honor, and his liberal Fortune unite to render him a valuable member of our republic.”

Dft (MHi: Knox Papers); 1 p. Recorded in SJL as received 25 Apr. 1789 “by Mr. J. Coffin Jones.” On this same date Knox wrote to John Coffin Jones, enclosing this letter and another for Lafayette (MHi: Knox Papers). See Acher to TJ, 29 Nov. 1788.
