The Secretary of War has the honor of proposing to the President of the United States, that Doctor Maupire of Virginia, be appointed a Surgeon’s Mate, in the Army of the United States.

George Washington Maupin (MAUPIRE) was commissioned a surgeon’s mate on 5 Nov. 1802 (Heitman, Dictionary description begins Francis B. Heitman, comp., Historical Register and Dictionary of the United States Army, Washington, D.C., 1903, 2 vols. description ends , 1:697).
