I send you inclosed as directed in yours of the 31st ulto $100, (25$ in 1 & 2$ notes & the Balance in 5$ notes) I1 could not obtain any more Small notes as the Banks here are without them

TJ’s missing letter to Gibson of the 31st ulto is recorded in SJL and described in Goodspeed’s Book Shop’s August 1963 newsletter, the Flying Quill, item 66-A, as a small, one-page letter in TJ’s hand containing the following text: “it did not occur that executions were now suspended by law … send me by mail 100 D. with a tolerable supply of Dollar, and 2 D. bills among them for change.”
