From Thomas Lehré

Charleston May 15th 1813

Dear Sir

I have just been informed that the Federal Marshal of this District, has resigned his office, in consequence of which, the President, I presume, will make an early appointment of a succeessor—Permit me Sir, to solicit your friendship as early as possible upon the occasion. I remain with the highest respect

Two weeks later President James Madison named Morton A. Waring to replace Robert E. Cochran, the federal marshal for South Carolina. Lehré in turn was appointed to succeed Waring as federal commissioner of loans for the same district (JEP description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States description ends , 2:160, 161, 347, 348, 396, 401 [9, 10 Jan. 1811, 29 May, 1 June, 24, 27 July 1813]).
