Dr Sir,

Having often heard you express a wish to get some fur Gloves, & meeting with the inclosed a few days ago in Baltimore, which appear to be of very good quality, I take the liberty of sending them to you by the mail, as the severity of the weather at present, must render them particularly acceptable. with Sincere & devoted Attachment

RC (DLC); partially dated; dateline below signature, adjacent to internal address: “Thomas Jefferson”; endorsed by TJ as received 15 Feb. 1810 and so recorded in SJL. FC (Robert Coles, Albemarle County, 1970); entirely in Coles’s hand; fully dated.

On the evening of 13 Mar. 1810 Coles sent TJ “a few Scion’s of the mountain Laurel. He hopes they will reach him without injury” (RC in DLC; endorsed by TJ as received 18 Mar. 1810 and so recorded in SJL).
