Philadelphia, 9 Aug. 1780. Encloses a resolve of Congress of 7 Aug. “giving certain Encouragements to Officers and Privates that shall incline to serve as Volunteer Horsemen in the Southern Department, in the Army under General Gates.”

RC (Vi); 2 p.; in a clerk’s hand, signed by Huntington. FC (DLC: PCC, No. 15); at foot of text: “N.B. The like verbatim to N. Carolina, S. Carolina & Georgia.” Enclosures (Vi): attested copies of (1) resolve of Congress, 7 Aug., concerning volunteer horse for Southern army; (2) resolve of Congress, 7 Aug., assigning balance of Virginia’s $10,000,000 quota to the support of the southern army; both printed in JCC description begins Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774–1789, ed. W. C. Ford and others, Washington, 1904–1937 description ends , xvii, 706–7.
