2. The Board was incorporated in Massachusetts in 1812 and elected JJ to the Board on 19 Sept. See Chapin to JJ, 19 Sept. 1812, D and CS, NNC (EJ 11544). See also JJ’s thanks to Chapin, 2 Dec. 1812, Dft, NNC (EJ: 08720), and Chapin’s reply of 10 Dec., ALS, NNC (EJ: 09073), stating that although he may be too distant to attend meetings, the board found listing JJ’s name “useful.”
