Philadelphia March 29. 1780

Sir

I have been honoured with your Excellency’s Favours of the 6th, 8th,1 17th, 20th, 23d, 26th & 27th Instant—and laid them before Congress.

Have received no later Intelligence from the southern Army than that which you was pleased to communicate.

Your Excellency will herewith receive a printed Copy of the Proceeding of the Court Martial on the Trial of Majr Genl Arnold2 and also an Act of Congress of this Day by which you will be informed that Genl Du Portail is directed to repair with all possible Despatch to the southern Army.3 I have the honour to be with the most perfect respect your Excy’s hble servt

LS, DLC:GW; LB, DNA:PCC, item 14. The docket of the LS in part reads: “rec[eive]d 3 April” (see also GW to Huntington, 7 April, postscript).

1. Huntington is alluding to a single letter that GW began on 6 March and completed on 8 March.

2. Huntington is referring to Arnold, Proceedings description begins Proceedings of a General Court Martial of the Line, Held at Raritan, in the State of New-Jersey, By Order of his Excellency George Washington, Esq., General and Commander in Chief Of the Army of The United States of America, For the Trial of Major General Arnold, June 1, 1779. Major General Howe, President. Philadelphia, 1780. description ends , which had been “PUBLISHED by ORDER of CONGRESS.” The actual enclosed copy has not been identified.

3. The enclosed resolution transferring Brigadier General Duportail to the southern department is in DLC:GW (see also JCC description begins Worthington Chauncey Ford et al., eds. Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774-1789. 34 vols. Washington, D.C., 1904–37. description ends , 16:316).
