§ From William Henry Harrison. 25 August 1806, Vincennes. “Please to pay John Wilkins Jnr. Esqr. or his order seventy Dollars which sum he has advanced me to pay the within account of Mr Elihu Stouts for printing done for the Executive Department of the Indiana Territory1 & to which there is a receipt in full & charge the same to the contingent fund of said Territory.”

RC and enclosure (DNA: RG 217, First Auditor’s Accounts, no. 18,726). RC 1 p.; bears Wilkins’s signed note: “Pay the amount of the within account to Captn. John Davidson or order.” For enclosure, see n. 1.

1The enclosed account (1 p.) listed charges for eight printing jobs done by Stout from 1804 to 1806, including proclamations by Harrison published in the Indiana Gazette, one advertisement, and “ten quires of blank Commissions,” for a total charge of $70. Written below the account was Stout’s receipt for the sum. At the foot of the page is Jacob Wagner’s signed notation: “The above account ought to be paid out of the appropriation for the contingent expenses of the Indiana Territory.”
