From Alexander Hamilton to Elizabeth Hamilton, 8 June 1800

To Elizabeth Hamilton

New Haven [Connecticut] June 8, 1800
Sunday Morning

I am just arrived my Dear Eliza at this place in good health and after breakfasting shall proceed on my journey.1

If I could be assured that your spirits were better and the health of yourself and Children good, I should enjoy much satisfaction from the agreeableness of the ride. The Country is truly charming. I remark as I go along every thing that can be adopted for the embellishment of our little retreat2—where I hope for a pure and unalloyed happiness with my excellent wife and sweet Children.

Adieu My Betsy   Every blessing attend you

A H

1For H’s New England trip, see the introductory note to H to Benjamin Stoddert, June 6, 1800.

2As this sentence indicates, H and his wife were planning to buy a house in the country. For H’s purchase of what became the Grange, see the to Philip Schuyler to H, July 17, 1800.
