From Alexander Hamilton

[Philadelphia] 23 April 1792. Submits “the enclosed communications respecting an instance of misconduct in the Collector of Newbury Port.”1

1The enclosures have not been identified. Stephen Cross, the collector for the port of Newburyport, Mass., was immediately removed from office (see Cross to Hamilton, 18 Oct. 1792, Syrett, Hamilton Papers, description begins Harold C. Syrett et al., eds. The Papers of Alexander Hamilton. 27 vols. New York, 1961–87. description ends 12:590), and on 3 May, GW appointed Edward Wigglesworth to “supersede” him (see GW to the U.S. Senate, 3 May [first letter]).
