To Alexander Hamilton from Jeremiah Olney, 23 August 1790

From Jeremiah Olney

Providence, August 23, 1790. Suspects that “a note for one hundred Dollars, issued … at the Bank of New York” is a counterfeit. Asks Hamilton for instructions. Asks if the expense of appraising imported goods should be defrayed by the importer or the government.

Copy, RG 56, Letters from the Collector at Providence, National Archives; ADfS, Rhode Island Historical Society, Providence.
