From Alexander Hamilton to Benjamin Lincoln, 14 April 1791

To Benjamin Lincoln

Treasury Department
April 14. 1791.

Sir

On considering your letter1 concerning the Revenue Cutter, I believe it will be on the whole best that the builder proceed with her, attending as far as possible to the other hints in my letter,2 other than relative to her size. It seems now too late to make any alteration that would lessen her dimensions.

I am Sir   Your Obedt Serv

Benjamin Lincoln Esqr.
Collector of the Customs
Boston

L[S], RG 36, Collector of Customs at Boston, Letters from the Treasury and Others, 1790–1817, Vol. 10, National Archives; copy, RG 56, Letters to the Collector at Boston, National Archives; copy, RG 56, Letters to Collectors at Small Ports “Set G,” National Archives; copy, RG 26, Lighthouse Letters Received, Revenue Cutter Service Letters Sent, Vol. “O,” National Archives.

2Letter not found. This letter presumably was similar to the letters which H sent to other collectors of the customs on January 22 and 23, 1791. See also H to Lincoln, January 21, 1791.
