Franklin and John Adams to Genet

AL:4 Library of Congress

Passy, Oct. 23. [i.e., on or after October 24, 1778]5

Messrs. Franklin and Adams present their Compliments to Mr. Genet, with Thanks for communicating the Papers, which they will read and consider, and furnish him with such Notes upon them as may occur.6

[Note numbering follows the Franklin Papers source.]

4In BF’s hand.

5We presume BF dated this letter erroneously, for it is in response to Genet’s of the 24th to each of the commissioners.

6They were as good as their promise; JA’s reply is printed in Taylor, Adams Papers, VII, after Oct. 24, BF or Arthur Lee’s below, under Oct. 26.
