Dear Sir
The enclos’d Account was settled by the late Commissioners, on which there is due to me £26 17s. 10d.5 It will oblige me, if without Inconvenience you can advance me the Money. The new Commissioners will at any time sign an Order for it; I am Yours affectionately

There is no order to BF for this amount in the records of either “the late Commissioners” or the new ones; it probably represents an unpaid balance of some larger order drawn under the £60,000 or £30,000 supply acts (see above, VI, 395–6, and this vol., pp. 3, 25), or Norris’ notation “per £1000 Entered” may indicate a sum still due BF for money he had advanced while on the committee to spend £1000 for defense in the fall of 1755; see above, VI, 165, 170–1. The pencilled “I.N.” at the top probably represents Speaker Isaac Norris’ approval of the payment.
6. WF received £37 8s. 5d. from the Loan Office on April 2 for postage on public letters and £90 12s. 0d. the next day “for Writing done, and as Clerk to the Assembly.” Norris Papers, Hist. Soc. Pa.
7. Obviously an error for £26 17s. 10d.
