Messieurs des Deux-ponts, Monsieur, m’écrivent du 2e. et me chargent de vous parler de leur bien tendre vénération et de Leur reconnoissance. Vous devés avoir reçu une Lettre de L’ainé:7 ils avoient Leurs ordres pour s’embarquer le 4e, et le 8e tout devoit être prêt à mettre à la voile. Ils passent L’un et L’autre à Bord du vaisseau L’éveillé de 64 Canons.
On m’assure que Suivant des Lettres de Londres, nommément adressées à M. de Sartine, Le feu ayant pris au Magasin à poudre au Port-röyal de La jamaique, ce magasin qui étoit Le plus grand et presque le Seul dépôt avoit sauté et presque ruiné Le Fort et endommagé beaucoup de vaisseaux dans le port.

7. The elder of the duchesse de Deux-Ponts’ sons was Christian (XXVIII, 539n); we have not located his letter. See also Kéralio’s letter of March 14.
8. Kéralio twice wrote WTF within the following six weeks, after which his personal correspondence with both BF and WTF apparently ceased until October. On April 10 he forwarded a copy in his own hand of an April 4 intelligence report from The Hague about Catherine II’s proposed league of neutral powers, adding that Golitsyn had invited the States General to join. On May 14 he reported that a returning frigate had seen Adm. Ternay’s fleet clear of the French coast. He announced his impending departure for his annual inspection tour of French military schools (for which see XXIX, 11–12) and gave a forwarding address. Both letters are at the APS; copies do not seem to have been forwarded to Congress, so we have not included them among the intelligence reports summarized above, March 7.
