Philadelphia 14 Decr 1820

Mr Du Ponceau presents his respects to Mr Jefferson, & has the honor of Sending to him at the request of Mr Pickering a corrected sheet of his Essay on an uniform Orthography of Indian languages, to be Substituted for the Same Signature in the copy formerly Sent, which is now cancelled.

RC (DLC); dateline at foot of text; endorsed by TJ as received 21 Dec. 1820 and so recorded in SJL. Enclosure: portion, not found, of John Pickering, An Essay on a Uniform Orthography for the Indian Languages of North America (Cambridge, Mass., 1820).
