From DeWitt Clinton
New York 31 May 1805
Sir
I enclose you some documents to prove the impressment of Philip Milligan a Citizen of the U. S. on board of a British Vessel of War. His Mother is a Widow & in great distress upon account of the situation of her son. If his release is obtained or you shall receive favorable intelligence respecting it, I will thank you to inform me of it in order to communicate it to her.
