4. Cadet is referring to an article published that very day in the Jour. de Paris (pp. 806–7), which he had founded in 1777. It tells of BF’s presence at the Collège Mazarin on July 15 to hear a dissertation on electricity dedicated to him by Louis-Hilaire Fagnan. The Latin text of the dissertation is at the APS.
D’Alembert was there, too, and both men were warmly greeted by the students. Cadet remarked that students were now introduced to experimental science rather than abstract discussions. BF is referred to as “le prince de la Physic.”
