As the Officice of Post Master Genl has become vacant by the removal of Col. Pickering, permit me to call your Excellencys attention to my situation, and shou’d you think I merit the appointment which I respectfully solicit;1 the Obligation shall be gratefully remembered by your Excellency’s most Obedient Hbl. 1Bush applied for positions in the federal government on several occasions between 1789 and 1793 (Bush to GW, 20 July 1789, and source note). His application to GW of 24 Oct. 1793 detailed the health and family concerns that prompted his request. On 24 Feb., GW nominated Joseph Habersham for postmaster general.
